Pre-op is a descriptor for transgender / GNC individuals who are choosing to undergo gender confirmation surgery within a short window of time in the future, but have not yet started those procedures. Short for “pre-operative.”
Post-op is a descriptor for transgender / GNCindividuals who have undergone gender confirmation surgery. Short for “post-operative.”
Non-op is a descriptor for transgender / GNC individuals who have chosen not to undergo any gender affirmation surgery. Short for “non-operative”. Non-op individuals may or may not still use other forms of medical transition such as hormone replacement therapies (HRT).
Whether or not a trans or GNC person decides to have any form of surgeries, hormone replacement therapies, etc - it does not dictate how “trans” they are. Trans identity does not rely on medical transition to be valid.
